Galway Early Music Festival

Since its inception in 1996, Galway Early Music has produced annual festivals which celebrated the culture of Europe from the 12th to the 18th century in music, dance, costume and colour. The aim of the festival is to create an audience for the music and dance of the medieval, renaissance and baroque periods through concerts and participation in workshops and masterclasses. The festival also encourages interaction of professional and amateur musicians and the development of historically informed performance in Galway and in Ireland as a whole.

The Galway Film Fleadh
July 7th to 12th 2020
The Galway Film Fleadh – Ireland’s leading film festival, is a six day international film event held every July and welcomes a mad diversity of filmmaking from around the world. The Fleadh is very much a film lovers’ festival, and attracts directors, actors, cinematographers and artists of all generations and cultural backgrounds. Now in its 24th year, the central goal of the Galway Film Fleadh remains unchanged: to bring together audiences and filmmakers within an intimate environment, and share a common experience – the wonder of cinema. The Fleadh’s diverse audience is made up of the general cinema going public, film buffs, student filmmakers, industry professionals and invited guests.

The Galway Arts Festial

Galway Arts Festival is Ireland’s largest international arts festival. Founded in 1978 it has grown into an event with a significant reputation where, in 2011, there were 162,000 attendances at 176 performances, talks and exhibitions in 27 venues over 14 days. The Festival showcases a wide variety of international artists alongside the best of Irish talent and includes music (popular, contemporary, jazz, world, classical and traditional), theatre (indoor and outdoor), visual arts, dance, talks, discussions, family events and comedy in its programme.

Galway’s Vintage Car Club (WVVMC) was founded in 1977 and has grown to be one of the largest clubs in Ireland. The WVVMC has almost 200 enthusiastic members and organises at least 10 events per year. The main event every year is the Summer Run, better known as the WestRun which always takes place towards the end of July, after the Galway Arts Festival and just before the Galway Races.

The Galway Races has become the greatest of all Irish Racing Festivals and probably the most lavish, colourful and sociable fixtures in the Irish Racing World. It is also both monetarily and numbers-wise the most successful race meeting in the country hailed as one of the world leaders in that field. It is not only a great sporting event, but also a unique social occasion filled with atmosphere, passion and craic and attracts both true race-goers and socialites alike.

Each September, Galway City comes alive with seafood & oysters as it celebrates the Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival, the most internationally recognised food festival in Ireland and the world’s longest running International Oyster Festival
Throughout the festival, a host of tantalising events to whet your appetite will take place, including; a seafood trail in some of Galway city’s finest restaurants, Taste of the Sea/Blas na Mara – showcasing Galway’s seafood heroes, the National Oyster Opening Championship, The Food village at The Festival Marquee, the World Oyster Opening Championship, a Mardi Gras event through the streets of Galway and the Festival Finale with family activities, kids fancy dress, live music, cooking demonstrations, ‘Hot Oyster Awards’ cooking challenge, Irish Coffee making and jive & jazz.
